TYPES of TUTORING:

Spot tutoring               This type of tutoring is a one shot review of subject material for tests and does not address fundamental issues.  We DO NOT perform spot tutoring for new students.

Homework tutoring    This type of tutoring does not address fundamental problems, and does not contribute to learning or retention.  It is merely cosmetic in nature, and is often                                                            counterproductive.  We DO NOT perform spot tutoring for new students.

Individual                   This is one-on-one tutoring in various subjects.  Syllabus is customized to the individual.  Conceptual understanding is stressed.  Memorization of procedures by rote is discouraged.  We are internationally-recognized as experts in this type of tutoring.

Group                          Although we refrain from group tutoring on the most part, we have occasion to perform this type of tutoring from time to time such as in the case of team or group preparation for selected events.  Our normal charge is $10/hour for each additional student over the base rate for one student.  We negotiate rates for special requests.

SUBJECTS and TOPICS:

We will find a tutor as expert as possible for the subject and topic requested; however, it is often necessary for the tutor to prepare specific material for the lesson.  If not already discussed, please advise us of the specific topic(s) where assistance is needed to ensure that we ae adequately prepared (this is generally for advanced high school and university courses).

SCHEDULING:

Our normal start times for sessions are, depending on your exact location, between 7am and 10pm every day of the week including weekends and holidays.  During certain times of the year, and during selected weeks, the regular schedule may not be available.  We will give advance notice for such exceptions.  Sessions are scheduled on a first-requested first-confirmed basis.  Weekly or regular periodic sessions are available also on a first-requested first-confirmed basis.  Please be advised that many students book weeks, and often months or a year in advance, as soon as their schedule becomes known.

Please ensure that the days of the sessions work for you.  Please refrain from booking sessions on known holidays, days off, or vacations without first verifying that those times will work.  We can often accommodate time changes from afternoon/evening to mornings/earlier afternoons on such days.  Should there be need to cancel a session, please do so at your earliest opportunity to allow us the time to fill that slot with another student.  We reserve the right to charge a 1 hour cancellation fee for sessions for which we are unable to fill the slot and for which at least a full 24-hour notice is not given.  Weekend cancellations are always subject to a cancellation fee regardless of length of notice.

When requesting session times, please indicate the day/time parameters and the length of the desired session(s).  We will accommodate whenever possible.  Additionally, should you wish to be placed on a waiting list for a currently unavailable time, please so indicate.

Please confirm special sessions booked more than 30 days in advance at least 2 weeks before the session.  We will generally remind you to confirm them.

Special scheduling requests will be honored where possible.

Sessions may be booked up to a year in advance.

Online sessions are available for students out of the Portland Metropolitan area and for those traveling outside the home area on vacations.  Please inquire as to requirements.

SESSION TIMES:

Session lengths are a minimum of 1 hour.  This may be split between two students in the same family.  We may impose a longer minimum time if you reside outside of our normal service area.

We endeavor to arrive earlier than the stated time of the session whenever possible.  If traffic conditions force a delay of more than 5 minutes, it is our policy to call and advise you of such delays.  Session times may be adjusted a few minutes either way for logistics reasons, especially during high traffic times.

Destinations over 20 miles from Tigard are subject to an additional destination charge and/or a longer minimum session time.

VACATIONS:

During certain times of the year (Spring break, Summer break, Winter break), online tutoring will be available to those going out of town for vacations or visits.  Please advise should you wish to participate online at those times.

PAYMENT POLICY:

We offer a discounted 10 hour rate for regular sessions.  This is paid in advance via cash, check or credit/debit card (PayPal).  Tutoring activity statements are available to all those on a regular schedule.

CONTACT:

Our preferred method of contact is by e-mail.  We acknowledge all email requests for sessions, cancellations, schedule changes, etc. at the earliest opportunity.  If you do not receive a response from us, please assume that we have not received your email.

We process email before 7am.  Once we leave the office, we do not generally receive or act upon them on the same day.  Should you require immediate assistance, or should the email concern a scheduling matter occurring on the same day, please CALL or TEXT.
